Too many Gmail invitations, suddenly

It has been a long since I wanted to have my own Gmail account but
turned into nothing for a few months even though I placed myself in a
Metafilter Gmail waiting list, perhaps because Google paused its
invitation mechanism. But today, I saw a email that asked me whether I
still need one and that mail was sent a few days ago but I didn't
notice it since I don't check my Yahoo accounts often. Then I go to
Metafilter and found there are still a few invitation available so I
clicked one. That's it, I have my own Gmail now.

But wait, there is more, as soon as I logged into Gmail, there were
six invitations waiting. And when I sent an invitation to myself to
create a new account, again, six more invitations. No wonder somebody
said Google is to release Gmail soon.

However, to my disappointment, Gmail is slow, really.
